The (High School) Physics of MRI
Friday October 25, 2024 8:30am - 9:45am PDT
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a remarkable feat of physics and engineering. The starting point is electromagnetic induction from our body’s abundant supply of hydrogen, but taking a simple voltage signal and creating high resolution images is not a simple task! This workshop will provide an overview of MRI technology and the image formation process, focusing on topics connected to the secondary physics curriculum. Participants should be able to take away new examples and applications for their classroom. This workshop is inspired by the MRI physics courses at BCIT, which teach this complex subject to students with only a high school physics background.
